Here are a few things to check to determine if you need a new trim Pump.
- If your trim pump is not functioning, you will first want to check the trim pump fuse by the batter
- If the trim pump fuse is okay, then you will want to bypass the trim switch to verify that the trim pump is bad. To do this you will apply 12V positive to the small blue wire and see if anything happens. Then to the same to the small green wire on the solenoids. The blue wire makes your trim pump pump in the up direction, The green wire makes the trim pump pump in the down direction. If the trim pump still does not work there are a couple of possibilities. If the solenoids were clicking, then it is possible that just the motor is bad. If the solenoids were not clicking, then most likely the solenoids are bad. It is unusual for both of them to be bad, so you may want to check to make sure the ground for the trim Pump is good.
- To determine if the trim pump motor is bad you want to apply 12V positive to the large trim pump motor blue wire first, and then to the large trim pump motor wire. If you have no response or a large spark, then the trim pump motor is bad or the valve body is locked up. You can do this same check with the trim pump motor removed from the valve body to see if it spins.
- The trim pump valve body is not designed to be serviceable, so if it is bad we would suggest replacing the complete trim pump.
